The Overview

This project involved the construction of a contemporary outdoor living space designed for both entertaining and quiet retreat. Working in close collaboration with Garden Design Collective, we delivered a highly detailed installation that balances architectural precision with soft, structured planting. The result is a refined terrace that feels fully integrated with both the property and the wider garden — considered, cohesive and built for long-term enjoyment.

The Brief

The clients sought a low-maintenance entertaining terrace that would function as a seamless extension of their home. Alongside a generous lawn area, the design called for focal planting, subtle screening, a calming water feature and an integrated lighting scheme that would allow the space to transition effortlessly from day to evening use. Durability and ease of upkeep were essential, but without compromising on quality, warmth or individuality.

Millboard composite decking was specified for its durability, natural appearance and long-term performance. Careful setting out was key to achieving the architectural detailing within the terrace, particularly the bespoke diamond feature positioned directly outside the main doors — a design element that creates a strong visual axis from inside the house. Border units were incorporated to frame the deck with precision, while bullnose boards form elegant, safe transitions down to the lawn. Particular attention was paid to alignment and proportion to ensure the terrace feels intentional from every sightline. Bespoke metal planters were fabricated specifically for the scheme. Rather than being positioned as standalone elements, they were integrated into the structural layout of the deck, allowing the detailing to feel cohesive and purposeful.
